Gilded Initial - An Introduction to Gilding

In this class we are going to learn modern gilding using Gold size and laying Gold leaf on Paper. It involves applying a layer of gold size adhesive to the surface, allowing it to dry, and then carefully placing gold leaf on top.
The gold leaf adheres to the surface, and excess is brushed away gently to reveal a smooth, shiny finish.
This technique is popular in contemporary decorative arts for its ability to create a luxurious, radiant effect on a variety of surfaces.
Morphing Monograms With

In this workshop we will celebrate the power of the pen and our imaginations to create dazzling
calligrams. These pinwheel-like monograms are produced by rotating a letter any number of
times, and incorporates fundamental principles of graphic design.
After we become comfortable with the concept and with working on layers of tracing paper, we
proceed to work with two letters in combination. The result is a more complex, sometimes
abstract design. We’ll then extract a part of the image to form a border to encase the monogram,
to make a completely organic design. And finally, we’ll consider a range of decorative
possibilities that can be applied by hand to the printed design.
